The Nespresso brand offers Costa Rica for OriginalLine and VertuoLine models. However, Costa Rica original delivers creamy beverages with malty sweet cereal character.
I brewed gran lungo, Americano, and milk beverages with a Costa Rica pod. In all cases, it surprised me and delivered me fabulous drinks. It allowed me to jumpstart my day with a clear head.
The Nespresso Costa Rica pod looked like Nespresso Odacio as it has the same blue color. The pod was labeled at the bottom. It is a Vertuo pod, so I brewed it with a Nespresso VertuoLine machine. Once the brewing was done, it smelled wonderful. I felt cereal and an earthy scent; its color hinted at 7 intensity. When I tasted it, the initial taste was pretty good. The cereal and mellow notes were coming through it. I also felt a bit of bitterness on my tongue. The smell and flavor were very pleasant. I also got a drying effect on the sides of my mouth, which is interesting. I found it heavy on my tongue, like syrupy. I thought it was the best way that I could describe it. The drink was heavy and had dense crema; the malty bitterness stayed for a long time and made the drink linger.
I brewed Americano; I heated the 2.5 oz filtered water and added it to the Costa Rica coffee. I tasted it and found it a good coffee cup. It had tapered bitterness, a heavy body, dense crema, and a pleasant taste. I also tried it with milk; I frothed the 3 oz milk in Aeroccino and added it to the brewed Costa Rica drink. I saw a separate thin layer and guessed maybe it had some oil in it. I felt a mellow and bitter taste on my tongue when I tasted it. I also got cereal, not on my palate, and the drying feeling returned. The cereal notes were dominant, but the mellow taste stayed long.
Overall, the flavor, aroma, and drink quality of Costa Rica was pretty good. It is the perfect morning coffee and makes your day better.
Only a small selection of Arabica coffee beans from Costa Rica’s mountains are soaked in rainforest hot spring waters. The thermal waters are brought down to the wet mill, their temperature dropping over 12 hours from 70˙C to 18˙C. As the waters cool, the pulped coffee soaks in the mineral-rich water. The warmer water speeds up the fermentation and brings out this rare coffee’s finest characteristics. The rare process of fermentation in the hot-spring waters brings a remarkably balanced and clean taste to the cup.
