Safety comes first, and nobody should take any leniency on it. A little malfunction can be life-threatening. Nespresso Citiz also demands safety not only for itself but also for your safety as well. If any calamity occurs, it will not only affect the brewer but can also engulf your happiness. So it’s better to care to avoid such things. Before using Nespresso Citiz, we recommend reading the Nespresso Citiz Safety precaution, which we provide in an easy way.

It is the same process as I explained in “How to Make Espresso with Nespresso CitiZ” with a difference in the 6th step:
6. Press the Espresso (40 ml or 1.35 oz) button to start. Preparation will stop automatically. To stop the coffee flow or top up your coffee, press the Espresso button again.
The Nespresso brand doesn’t list how to make a Ristretto in the Nespresso CitiZ manual, but if you’re a Ristretto enthusiast, don’t worry! We will tell you from our experience how to make Ristretto with your Nespresso CitiZ.
You should note that the Nespresso CitiZ only makes two volumes of drinks, one for Espresso and the other for Lungo. If you want to program the Ristretto on your Citiz machine, you have to select one of the Espresso or Lungo buttons. But keep in mind that the button you choose to program the Ristretto will give you Ristretto instead of Espresso or Lungo. Now it’s up to you whether you sacrifice Espresso or Lungo for Ristorto.
After programming the Ristretto you can get the following cup sizes from your Nespresso CitiZ,
Either:
Or:
That means in both cases you have to skip either the Espresso or the Lungo.
Instructions:
It depends on what kind of double shot you want to make. In my experience there are two types of double shot you can make with your Nespresso CitiZ. The first method is to brew the same Nespresso capsule twice:
Note: The thing to note is that by brewing a Nespresso capsule twice this way, the coffee you get will be thinner, weaker, and less flavorful.
If you only want to brew the capsules twice with your Citiz machine, I would recommend using the Ristretto or Espresso button. If you use the lungo button for this purpose, the resulting coffee will be thinner, weaker and less flavorful.
If you are an avid coffee drinker and like to drink different sizes of coffee at different times, then Nespresso CitiZ can fulfill your passion very well. So, if you want a large cup of coffee you can make it with your Nespresso CitiZ by following the below steps:
If you want a mouth-watering feeling, use milk frother for your coffee recipes:
If you are using Nespresso citiz after an extended period, you have to again read the given process of using and go through the steps again to easily follow the procedure to avoid any miss handling.

Energy Saving Mode is a feature available on all Nespresso machines, including the Citiz, that aims to limit power consumption, so you can lower your electricity bills. Set the machine to energy-saving mode once; there is nothing more to do, and your CitiZ will automatically enter power-off mode after 9 minutes. Here is how to set your CitiZ machine to energy-saving mode:
First, you have to turn on the machine:
The above setting is not an energy-saving mode, so you cannot save energy with this setting. The question is, how can you change it?
When you hold the Espresso or Lungo button for 3 seconds the blinking of the light indicates that now you can shift it to energy saving mode either to 9 minutes or 30 minutes. If you press the Espresso button once, your Citiz will power off after 9 minutes. And if you press the Espresso button one more time, your Citiz will turn off after 30 minutes, you can choose your required time of energy saving mode.
Press the Lungo button for 3 seconds, and your machine will switch from energy-saving mode to manual on/off, You can easily set your Nespresso Citiz from energy-saving mode to manual on/off:
When you are in the mood to make coffee with your Nespresso citiz, there are easy steps to follow,
If you use it daily, these steps are automatically on your fingers.
Tips:
Instructions:
CAUTION:-Do not open the lever while it’s working.
NOTE:-The blinking of the coffee button could be pressed during heat up.
If you are worried about how much water you have to take to make your coffee, you don’t have to worry; it’s an automatic machine, and just following the steps guide you in every aspect.
Empty the system before a period of non-use and for frost protection or before a repair.
It is not difficult at all to make your machine empty if you are going on vacation or you are planning to not use it for a couple of days. For the complete process follow the following steps.
Emptying mode instructions:
There are particularly some specific settings that must be given to every appliance whenever you purchase anything. Nespresso gives you some factory settings related to the making of the coffee, plus there are certain settings given which are for the energy saving mode and to set the water volume also, the following are the factory settings.
Nespresso Factory Settings:
Instructions:
Note: There is a difference between light blinking. For factory settings the LEDs will blink fast 3 times and for heating up LEDs will blink normally for 25 seconds.
Descaling is the process of removing that mineral buildup or remaining residue of the coffee during the preparation. The water you use for brewing coffee contains minerals, like calcium and magnesium, when this water passes through your Nespresso Citiz machine it eventually accumulates on its heating element as limescale. To remove this limescale from your Citiz you need descaling. Follow the below process to descale your Nespresso CitiZ.
Nespresso CitiZ Descaling Instructions:
The below table will show you the exact descaling frequency required for the optimum performance of your CitiZ machine. We have created this table on the basis of water hardness:
Water Hardness French Grade (fH) | Water Hardness German Grade (dH) | Water Hardness Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) | Descale After |
36 | 20 | 360 mg/l | 300 Cups (40 ml or 1.35 oz) |
18 | 10 | 180 mg/l | 600 Cups (40 ml or 1.35 oz) |
0 | 0 | 0 mg/l | 1200 Cups (40 ml or 1.35 oz) |
CAUTION:-The descaling liquid is harmful, so avoid contact with eyes or skin and make sure that it is out of reach of children. Descaling is necessary for the optimum performance of the machine. You must use the Nespresso descaling kit available at Amazon and other online stores including the Nespresso Club. Any descaling product other than the Nespresso descaling kit can damage your machine.
It’s best to wash the removable parts of your Nespresso CitiZ daily (drip tray, used capsule container, water reservoir, drip tray, drip grid, and drip base) and the parts that are not removable (coffee buttons Espresso and Lungo, machine’s interface, coffee outlet, capsule container, lever, lid) clean them with a cloth. And brew a clean cycle at least once a month. This will help you to remove and prevent hard water minerals and calcium deposits from building up and causing your baby to perform poorly.
Caution: Whenever you are planning to clean your machine, read out all the safety precautions given to avoid any kind of hassle. This is an electronic machine, so it requires extra care.
Caution:
When you brew a cleaning cycle on your Nespresso CitiZ it cleans the brew chamber, coffee outlet to eliminate the coffee oil residue to make better tasting coffee. On the other hand, the decaling cycle effectively breaks down the mineral scale on the heating element to extend the life of your CitiZ machine.
