1. Coffee Buttons Espresso And Lungo

What Are Their Use?

To ON and OFF the brewer

You can press either Espresso or Lungo button to turn the machine ON.
To turn the machine OFF, Espresso & Lungo buttons are used again. Simultaneously press and hold the Lungo and Espresso button.

In Energy saving mode

To change the Nespresso Citiz Energy saving settings, the Espresso button is useful. Just press and hold the Espresso button for 3 seconds.
To exit the Energy Saving setting mode, Press and hold the Lungo button for 3 seconds.

For The First Time Or After A Long Time Cleaning Nespresso Citiz

Press the Lungo button to rinse the machine.

For Coffee Preparation

Press the Lungo button, and about 110 ml of Lungo will be poured into the mug/cup through the coffee outlet.
Press the Espresso button, and about 40 ml of Espresso will be poured into the mug/cup through the coffee outlet.

2. Coffee Outlet

6. Lever

How To Repair A Nespresso Citiz Machine

Nespresso Citiz coffee machine does provide you with delicious and soothing coffees quickly and easily, but behind the curtain, work is a bit complicated. The machine is designed to take less effort from you and to give more assets; thus, maximum responsibilities fall on the machine’s capability. So scarcely, the machine gets over-worked and demands some repairing which you must offer.

I do personally own Nespresso Citiz for approx. 9 years and recently, I encountered a few repairing problems, which I will share with you to make sure you will only get the best solution without going through many struggles as I had.

Problem

The major problem which I also encountered was the leakage of water in the capsule compartment.

Reason

The reason for the water leakage can be due to a dirty grid plate, or there can be blockage due to coffee deposits just behind the coffee nozzle.

Solution

To solve the issue, you have to open the machine. So, grab your tools, and let’s get to work.

Firstly unplug the cord and let the machine cool down.
Remove any used capsule from the capsule compartment by lifting the lever and closing it back.
Remove all the removable parts, including the drip tray, capsule holder, and water tank.
Flip the machine to 180 degrees and unscrew the screws on the bottom of the machine.
After removing the screws, slightly jerk the base to loosen the upper body’s attachment hold with the base.
Grab a pry tool and remove the side coverings by prying the machine (one by one on each side)
After removing the side covers, you will see 2 plastic clips on each side (upper left and right side) of the machine. Using the pry tool, unclips them.
When you unclip all 4 clips, you will see the nozzle is loosened a bit. Remove the nozzle by prying.
Lift the lever.
Remove the upper dome-shaped plastic covering. Be careful not to damage the internal wiring.
You will see 4 screws, 2 on each side of the machine (near the lower-end side of the lever). Unscrew them.
The whole capsule compartment and the lever part (also known as the brewing unit) will come off.
To detach the water pipe from the brewing unit, use tweezers to remove the retainer and free the water pipe connection.
When you look in the brewing unit, you will see a grid plate. Clean it with the help of a brush.
Use the prying tool and remove the nozzle from the brewing unit.
You will see a lot of coffee deposits and gunk inside. Clean them with water.
To further clean the area between the nozzle part and the grid plate, just insert a flathead screwdriver through a hole (you will find it at the upper side of the brewing mechanism part) inside the space between the nozzle and grip plate.
Then with the help of a flathead screwdriver, push the grip plate from the inside to the outside.
The grip plate will come right off. Use the needle to unclog the tiny hole on the grid plate.
Place back the grid plate.
Reconnect the water pipe connection and place back the removed nozzle part.
Reposition the brewing unit on the machine and screw it nicely.
Place back the upper doomed-shaped covering and the side covering.
Screw back the base.
Your machine’s leakage problem will be solved.
Lastly, give your machine a few rinsing cycles, and your machine is ready for brewing.

How To Nespresso Citiz Teardown

Issues like the water not coming out or water leakage inside the machine can make you disable the machine and internally cleans it. This is where the how-to teardown Nespresso machines guide comes in handy. I will guide you on how you can properly disassemble your machine without damaging the brewer and yourself. So let’s get going.

Required Tools:

A prying tool such as a flathead screwdriver or a Spudger.
Pliers for removing the screws.

Instructions:

Unplug the machine’s cord and let the machine cool down.
Remove the removable parts; water tank, capsule container, and drip tray.
Then flip the machine upside down, and you will see 6 screws.
Lay down the machine sideways.
Unscrew them with the help of pliers.
Jerk with a little bit of force to loosen the grip of the base from the upper body part.
When the base part loosens a bit, you can pry the side covering using a spudger (both sides will come)
Once the sides are removed, you will see four hooks or clips (two on each side) on the brewing mechanism part (the part where the lever and capsule compartment exits).
With the help of a spudger, unclip all 4 hooks or clips.
To remove the command console cover ( where Lungo and Espresso Buttons are located), use the spudger to pry it off (carefully not to damage the attached wires)
Now lift the lever and pull off the whole dome shapes plastic upper cover.
You will see 4 screws (two on each side) on the brewing unit. Unscrew them.
With the help of a spudger, pry the nozzle covering off.
Then the whole brewing unit will be freed and will come off (with the exception of the water pipe connection)
There will be a retainer on the water pipe connecting it to the brewing unit; remove it with the help of a flat head screw driver. The pipe then gets detached.

How to Replace Nespresso Citiz Parts? A Step-By-Step Guide

Nespresso Citiz is surely a hard machine, but problems can occur, and sometimes these problems can make you replace the damaged parts with new ones. Nespresso Citiz Drip Tray Replacement

To replace the drip tray, simply slide the old drip tray off and place a new drip tray back by sliding it on.

Nespresso Citiz has two buttons. One button is Espresso which gives 40 ml or 1.35 ounces of shot, and the other is Lungo which gives 110 ml or 3.72-ounce coffee shot. The work of button replacement is a little technical, but you should follow the below instructions and will surely be able to succeed in changing the old buttons with the new ones.

Instructions

Unplug the machine’s cord and let the machine cool down.
Remove the removable parts; water tank, capsule container, and drip tray.
Then flip the machine upside down, and you will see 6 screws.
Lay down the machine sideways.
Unscrew them with the help of pliers.
Jerk with a bit of force to loosen the grip of the base from the upper body part.
When the base part loosens a bit, you can pry the side covering using a spudger (both sides will come)
Once the sides are removed, you will see four hooks or clips (two on each side) on the brewing mechanism part (the part where the lever and capsule compartment exits).
With the help of a spudger, unclip all 4 hooks or clips.
To remove the command console cover ( where Lungo and Espresso Buttons are located), use the spudger to pry it off (carefully not to damage the attached wires).
On the inner side of the command cover, you will see buttons and a small PCB (printed circuit board), and a rubber cover.
Remove the PCB from the rubber cover by simply holding and placing it away.
Place new button rubber covers and reassemble the parts together to close the machine.
Button replacement has been done.

Nespresso Citiz Gasket Replacement

A gasket is a round elastomer loop that seals the connection between the water tank nozzle and the base where the water tank stands to prevent leakage. It can be replaced easily in just a few steps.

Instructions:

Make sure the machine is cool, and the cord is off.
Turn the machine upside down.
Unscrew all the bottom screws.
Use a prying tool as a spudger or flathead screwdriver, insert it in the recesses, and pry the button layer off from the machine’s base.
You will see a water tank connector on which two water hoses would be connected.
In the water tank connecter, you will see a gasket; replace the old gasket with the new one (place the new gasket exactly like how the old one was placed before to avoid leakage).
Place back the machine base cover and secure it by screwing.
Your gasket has been replaced.

Nespresso Citiz Power Cord Replacement

We all know the power cord is one of the significant parts of the machine. Any damage leading to a power cord can be very harmful to your machine and to yourself too. So it’s better to replace the damaged power cord with the new one instantly. Here’s how you can do so.

Instructions

Make sure the machine is cool, and the cord is off.
Turn the machine upside down.
Unscrew all the bottom screws.
Use a prying tool as a spudger or flathead screwdriver, insert it in the recesses, and pry the button layer off from the machine’s base.
Unplug the adapter plug of the neutral wire.
Also, unplug the ground wire.
With the help of a screwdriver, remove the cable bracket as well.
Place a new cord and connect the wires back according to the wiring diagram below.
Secure the cable bracket and place back the base covering
Secure it with screws, and cord replacement is done.

Nespresso Citiz Replacement Water Tank

Nespresso Citiz has a 1L or 33.8-ounce water tank attached to the back of the machine. It is connected through its nozzle on the tank base. You can easily replace it by taking the new Citiz tank and placing it in the place of the old one.

Nespresso Citiz Brewing Unit Replacement

The brewing unit is also one of the significant parts where the capsule resides, and puncturing is done for the coffee. The brewing unit has a dripping nozzle, lever, and capsule compartment. You can replace it with the new one, but you have to open the machine. Here is how you can do it

Instructions:

Firstly unplug the cord and let the machine cool down.
Remove any used capsule from the capsule compartment by lifting the lever and closing it back.
Remove all the removable parts, including the drip tray, capsule holder, and water tank.
Flip the machine to 180 degrees and unscrew the screws on the bottom of the machine.
After removing the screws, slightly jerk the base to loosen the upper body’s attachment hold with the base.
