Nespresso Lattissima Pro Not Working – How to Fix It?

Quick Navigation

Spread the love

If you are a coffee lover and rely on your Nespresso Lattissima Pro to whip up your favorite morning latte or cappuccino. Then, you may encounter situations when your Nespresso Lattissima Pro does not work like it used to. There’s nothing more frustrating than pressing the “start” button only to find that your beloved Lattissima Pro isn’t working. Take your time since; there are a few simple things you can try to troubleshoot the issue and get your Nespresso Lattissima Pro back up and running in no time.

Problem 1: No Light On Display Of Nespresso Lattissima Pro

Nespresso Lattissima Pro has a built-in user-friendly display on the top of the machine. The panel provides easy access to various functions and settings, including the ability to customize your coffee drinks, adjust the temperature and volume of your beverages, and activate the cleaning and descaling modes. The lights on the panel indicate different messages and help the user operate the functions more conveniently and efficiently. If a problem occurs in the light system of the display, it can ruin your entire experience brewing coffee. Do not worry; you can solve this issue by assessing the root cause of this problem.

Cause 1: Power Issue

The possible reason for this problem is insufficient power transfer to the brewer. This problem could arise due to various reasons.

Solution 1: Check The Plug

To address the light issue on your Nespresso Lattissima Pro, start by verifying that the machine’s plug is properly inserted into the outlet. For optimal performance, ensure your Nespresso Lattissima Pro is connected to a dedicated grounded outlet exclusively used for this appliance and not shared with other devices or appliances. Otherwise, the plug may get tripped.

Solution 2: Check The Voltage

After assuring that your appliance is properly plugged in, it is time to check the voltage properties and that your brewer receives sufficient voltage without any fluctuations. The inadequate voltage or voltage fluctuations can cause the machine to stop mid-process and turn the lights off.

Solution 3: Check  The Fuse

Your coffee machine can experience a minor electrical malfunction in its circuitry, which can cause disruption or failure in the circuit system. If the circuit breaker trips repeatedly, it may indicate overloading. To determine if overloading is the cause, unplug some appliances to reduce the load on the circuit. After doing so, try turning on the coffee machine again to see if the issue has been resolved.

Cause 2: The Display System Is Broken

If none of the above solutions is working, then it is possible that your Nespresso Lattissima Pro’s display system is broken, resulting in the lights not illuminating.

Solution: Repair Or Call  Nespresso

Hire a technician to repair your Nespresso Lattissima Pro, or call Nespresso for further assistance.

Problem 2: Why The Nespresso Is Displaying “Machine Too Hot” Alert

If your Nespresso Lattissima Pro displays a “Machine Too Hot” message, it means that the heater in the machine has reached a high temperature.

Cause: 1 Empty Fluid System

The problem can occur under certain conditions, such as after emptying the fluid system and refilling. When the fluid system is emptied, the heater in the machine may continue to run, causing it to heat up quickly without any fluid to cool it down. This can lead to the “Machine Too Hot” message being displayed on the machine’s display.

Solution: Let It Rest

To resolve this issue, turn off the machine and let it cool down for at least 30 minutes. This will allow the heater to cool down to a safe temperature. Once the machine has cooled down, you can turn it back on and resume using it as usual.

 Cause 2: An Internal Malfunction

This problem also occurs when the heating element in the machine overheats due to some internal malfunction.

Solution: Call Nespresso

This problem is a matter of great technicalities, hence needs proper guidance. Call Nespresso and claim your warranty if it is still valid or ask them to repair your Nespresso.

Problem 3: Why The Coffee Comes Out Very Slowly

That moment can be frustrating and time-consuming when you notice your coffee coming out very slowly from your beloved Nespresso Lattissima Pro. This issue can occur for various reasons, resulting in weak and under-extracted coffee. Several factors can contribute to slow coffee flow, all discussed below with their possible solutions.

Cause 1: Brewer is Clogged

The most common cause we can trace for this problem is the mineral build up in the machine. That creates a build-up within the system of the machine. The accumulation of minerals can affect water flow, resulting in a slow coffee flow. The only practical solution to this issue is to descale your machine. Refraining from regularly descaling your Nespresso Lattissima Plus can lead to a persistent slow flow problem.

Solution: Descale Your Nespresso Lattissima Pro

The Descale method is explained below in detailed

  1. Eject the used capsule and close the lever.
  2. Turn on the machine and wait for it to heat up. Once heated, press the gears button on display to enter the menu mode.
  3. Use the down arrow to navigate to the “descaling” option and press the checkmark button to confirm.
  4. The machine will display a message indicating that the descaling process will take 25 minutes. Press the checkmark button again to confirm.
  5. Press the checkmark button again to confirm that you want to proceed with descaling.
  6. Remove the drip tray and capsule container and empty them. Then, press the down arrow button.
  7. Fill the water tank with 2/3 water and add one packet of descaling solution. Press the down arrow button.
  8. Insert the hot water nozzle into the reservoir and press the down arrow button.
  9. Place a container under the coffee outlet and hot water nozzle. Then, press the down arrow button.
  10. Press the checkmark button to start the descaling process. The solution will alternate between the coffee outlet and the hot water nozzle. After completing the process, discard the solution and empty the drip tray and capsule container. Press the down arrow button.
  11. Rinse the water reservoir and refill it to the MAX level with fresh water. Place the water tank back onto the machine and press the down arrow button.
  12. Place a receptacle under the coffee outlet and hot water nozzle. Then, press the down arrow button to start the rinsing process. The water will flow alternately between the coffee outlet and the hot water nozzle.
  13. Once the tank is empty, the machine will switch off automatically. Press the checkmark button to start the final rinsing process.
  14. Discard the rinsing water and empty and rinse the drip tray and capsule container. Reinsert both back into the machine.

Cause 2: Wrong Capsule Type Selection

If you select the wrong type of capsule for your beverage, it can result in a slow coffee flow. It is because each specific kind of coffee has its coffee grounds finely calibrated to match the water pressure of the Nespresso. If the wrong capsule is used, slow coffee flow or coffee grounds in the cup can occur.

Solution 1: Select the Relevant Capsule Type

Ensure that the correct type of capsule is selected when making your coffee. Nespresso capsules should be used for making espresso, and lungo capsules should be used for lungos. The type of coffee that each capsule is best suited for is usually indicated on the packaging, so it is essential to check before use.

Solution 2: Use Original Nespresso Capsules

Certain third-party coffee capsules may not function optimally in Nespresso machines. Specifically, capsules made of aluminum tend to perform better than those made of plastic. To ensure optimal performance, use Nespresso capsules specifically designed for use with Nespresso machines. Original Nespresso capsules possess the ideal thickness and perforation required for the machine to function correctly.

Cause 3: Dirty Capsule Unit

A potential cause of slow coffee flow could be a capsule unit that is not clean. When the capsule unit is obstructed, the coffee and water cannot move through it efficiently.

Solution: Run A Rinse Cycle

  1. Rinse the water reservoir and fill it to the MAX level with fresh water. Place the water reservoir onto the machine and press the down arrow button.
  2. Place a container under the coffee outlet and hot water nozzle. Then, press the checkmark button to start the rinsing process. The water will flow alternately between the coffee outlet and the hot water nozzle.
  3. Once the reservoir is empty, the machine will switch off automatically. Press the checkmark button to start the final rinsing process.
  4. Discard the rinsing water and empty and rinse the drip tray and capsule container. Reinsert both back into the machine.

Cause 4: Low Water Pressure

If your water pressure is low, it can affect the coffee flow from your coffee maker. It is because brewing requires a specific pressure level to extract the flavors and oils from the coffee grounds and create the desired taste and aroma. If the water pressure is insufficient, it can result in a week, under-extracted coffee that lacks flavor and intensity.

Solution: Fill The Water Reservoir

To address the water pressure issue, try filling your reservoir to the MAX FILL line with fresh water.

Problem 4: Why Is The Coffee Not Hot Enough

Coffee only tastes good once it reaches the optimum temperature. A hot steam rising from a  freshly brewed coffee is enough to indicate that the coffee is hot and ready to be enjoyed. Whereas the absence of steam only brings disappointment. There can be various reasons why your Nespresso Lattissima Pro is dispensing lukewarm coffee. Let us see what those are and how we can resolve them.

Cause 1: Your Coffee Cup Is Cold

Your coffee may be turning out cold because you are using a cup that is not preheated. It could be the main reason for the temperature drop, leading to a less-than-desirable coffee experience.

Solution: Preheat The Cup

A straightforward solution would be to preheat your cup to prevent this problem. It will help to maintain the heat of your coffee for a more extended period and allow you to enjoy your caffeine fix fully.

Cause 2: Broken Heating System

The heating element is a crucial component in a coffee brewing machine, acting as the heart of the system by producing the heat necessary for a perfect cup of coffee. If your Nespresso machine is experiencing problems with its heating element, it can be a significant inconvenience, resulting in not having an adequately heated coffee.

Solution: Repair The Heating System

To address this issue, I recommend you replace the heating system in your Nespresso Lattissima Pro. However, this task requires technical expertise, and it’s recommended to seek the assistance of a qualified technician or carefully follow the manufacturer’s instructions for replacing the component.

Solution: Call Nespresso

Since the problem is in the internal system of Nespresso Lattissima Pro, you can also call Nespresso and tell them your situation. The Nespresso team will further assist you in how to solve this problem.

Problem 5: Capsule Area Is Leaking (Water In Capsule Container)

If your Nespresso machine leaks, it can cause several problems impacting its functionality, safety, and longevity. Not only can a leak create a mess, but it may also harm the internal components of the machine, potentially leading to malfunction or failure.

Cause 1: Clogged Nozzle

Coffee grounds left behind in your Nespresso machine can accumulate and create blockages or clogs in the pipes over time. Failing to clean or descale your machine regularly can increase the chances of clogs occurring, particularly in the nozzle.

Solution 1: Clean The Nozzle

Try washing the nozzle in hot water to eliminate the clogged residue, and dry it with a damp cloth. Alternatively, you can use a needle to clean the nozzle, but be careful not to damage the pipe.

Solution 2: Clean With Cleaning Pods

For a thorough cleaning of your Nespresso machine’s internal clogs and debris, I suggest using  Cleaning Pods or capsules. These capsules are designed to effectively clean the machine’s nozzle, brew chamber, and exit spout, making them ideal for routine maintenance.

How To Use These Pods

Cleaning your Nespresso machine with a cleaning pod is as easy as you think. You only need to insert the cleaning pod in the capsule holder and choose the most extensive brew option from the display. It will eliminate any calcium and lime build-up that may have accumulated in the machine. Once this step is complete, remove the cleaning capsule from the brewer and run the largest cup size twice to rinse the machine thoroughly.

Cause 2: Clogged Capsule Unit

When water flows through the Nespresso Capsule, the coffee ground can sometimes get stuck inside the capsule unit. It is essential to run a rinse cycle after every use to ensure proper brewer cleaning. If the unit is not cleaned regularly, it can result in the buildup of coffee debris within the piercing plate, causing it to malfunction in piercing the capsule effectively, leading to machine leaks both in the present and future.

Solution: Run a Rinse Cycle

To avoid the occurrence of clogging in the capsule unit, remember to run a rinse cycle after use.

See the section “Run A Rinse Cycle” under “Problem 3 (Cause 3)” above for more details.

Cause 3: Clogged Grid Plate

An accumulation of coffee residue may cause a blockage in the grid plate, resulting in leakage in the capsule area. As a result, leaks can occur when water cannot enter or exit the capsule properly.

Solution:  Unclog The Grid Plate

To clean the grid plate and remove coffee residue, simply scrub the plate thoroughly with a toothbrush. To ensure the water runs clear after cleaning the plate, run the machine several times with clean water.

See the “Run A Rinse Cycle” under “Problem 3 (Cause 3)” above for more details.

Cause 4: Wrong Capsule Placement

There is a specific way to place the coffee capsules in the capsule unit of all Nespresso machines. If you put it in the wrong direction, it may cause leakage.

Solution: Place The Capsule Correctly

Make sure the unit head closes properly after laying the capsule straight down in the capsule container.

Cause 5: Use of Faulty Third-Party Capsule

Using poor-quality reusable or inferior third-party capsules can lead to coffee leakage over time, as these capsules may not be compatible with your Nespresso machine. It is recommended to use reliable third-party capsules compatible with your machine to avoid this issue. Doing so can ensure that your coffee is brewed correctly and prevent leaks or malfunctions.

Solution 1: Use A Reliable Third Party Capsule

Solution: Contact Nespresso

It is advisable to send it for repair or contact the Nespresso Club for assistance to ensure that your machine operates optimally and efficiently.

Problem 8: No Coffee, Just Water Runs Out (Despite Inserted Capsule)

There are multiple reasons why your Nespresso machine might not dispense coffee and only water. However, you can take a few troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue.

Cause 1: Improper Capsule Placement

A probable cause behind this problem is the improper capsule placement in the capsule unit. If the capsule is not inserted correctly, it will not be able to pierce completely, and hence there will be no dispensing of coffee.

Solution: Place the Capsule Correctly

Make sure you have discarded the previous capsule and placed the capsule in the proper position in the capsule unit. Remember that the lever head should be appropriately closed after inserting the capsule.

Cause 2: Brewer Is Clogged

Dirt particles and leftover coffee residue have accumulated and built a mineral composition in your Nespresso, hence making it unable to perform its functions properly.

Solution: Run A Descale Cycle

Your Nespresso urgently needs a descale cycle. Remember to use Nespresso descaling solution to have a hassle-free and perfect descale.

See the section “Descale Your Nespresso Lattissima Pro” under “Problem 3 (Cause 1)” above for details.

Cause 3: Broken Capsule Unit

Regular usage over several years can result in wear and tear, leading to the possibility of a crack forming on the inside of the Nespresso machine. This damage is typical in frequently used appliances and can eventually impact the machine’s overall performance.

Solution: Contact Nespresso

No, only while under the warranty period, Nespresso offers to either repair or replace any defective product, free of charge to the owner, at the company’s discretion. After the warranty ends, you will have to pay for the services.

How Often Should I Descale My Nespresso Machine?

I recommend you to descale your Nespresso Lattissima Pro after every 600 cups of coffee or, at the very least, every six months. Furthermore, it is recommended that you run a rinse cycle to remove any remaining coffee residue after preparing your coffee and removing the capsule.
